Change Your Tune in 2019

Music seems to be everywhere during the holidays. But regardless of whether you can’t get enough of caroling or can’t take one more song from the department store holiday season playlist, you’re going to love the Naxos Music Library, an extraordinary online collection of classical, jazz, world, folk and Chinese music — all available to you thanks to the library’s campuswide subscription to Naxos.

How to access Naxos

Naxos is available through all UC Davis computers — at our libraries, at home or at your office. Off campus? No problem. Just log in using the campus VPN.

More about the Naxos Music collection

The Naxos collection includes the complete BIS, Chandos, Hänssler, Hungaroton, Marco Polo, Naxos, Ondine and selected titles of other leading independent labels, with over 1,000 albums added monthly.

Particularly noteworthy is the Naxos Music Library Jazz, one of the most comprehensive collections of jazz music available online. The Naxos jazz library includes the catalogs of Blue Note Records, featuring albums by iconic artists such as John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon, Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter; 22 labels of Fantasy Jazz, the world’s deepest jazz catalog; and more than 200 other labels.

Naxos offers:

  • More than 141,810 CD-length recordings — equivalent to 2,196,200 tracks — with an average addition of over 1,000 CDs every month
  • Music notes, cover artwork, track lists, instrumentation and publisher information
  • Libretti and synopses of more than 700 operas
  • More than 40,000 composer and artist biographies

Beyond the Music, into the Classroom

Naxos offers a lot of benefit for educators and students, as well.

  • Play selections in the classroom or assign listening without having to find or purchase CDs
  • Create playlists to facilitate class discussions
  • Multiple users can listen to the same tracks at the same time, without waiting for the a physical copy of a recording to be returned to the library
  • Learn from composer biographies, a glossary of musical terms, CD liner notes and other useful text resources

If you haven’t tried Naxos before, tune in next year… and enjoy!
