Congratulations to the 2019 Lang Prize Winners
We are pleased to introduce the 2019 winners of the Norma J. Lang Prize for Undergraduate Information Research. The Lang Prize recognizes undergraduates who make exceptional use of library resources, services and expertise — such as primary source materials and special collections, online databases and journal articles, interlibrary loan services, or consulting with a librarian.
Through their research, this year’s winners brought fresh insights to a diverse range of topics, from causes, detection and treatment of cancer to Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, from the influence of evangelical Christianity on medical practice in the antebellum American South to the cultural symbolism of the 2016 redesign of the SFMOMA.
This year, the library also introduced a new award for First-Year Undergraduates. Hannah Wang, the first to win in this new category, compared American and South Korean esports using academic sources as well as her own primary source: an interview she conducted with a professional Korean esports player.
Now in its third year, the Lang Prize is supported by a bequest from the late Professor Emerita of Botany Norma J. Lang, who taught at UC Davis for nearly 30 years. The prize honors Professor Lang’s devotion to her students and love of the research process. Learn more about Professor Lang’s legacy.
